Who is PD

About People's Dialogue

People’s Dialogue on Human Settlements (PD) is a non-governmental organisation which is affiliated to the Slum Dwellers’ International (SDI). PD is a the professional support office for the Ghana Alliance of the Urban Poor Partners that includes the Ghana Federation of the Informal Traders (GHAFIT), Rail land dwellers, Kayayei and other disadvantaged and vulnerable urban poor groups. The name PD was chosen because of our resolve and believe that dialogue is a key instrument of empowerment and development.

PD was incorporated in 2003 primarily to orient and give voice and agency to mostly the women in Old Fadama, when they were facing eminent threats of eviction.

PD’s has since been supporting urban poor groups to improve their livelihoods. This has been done through mobilising especially women to save and to use the savings to leverage other sources of funding for slum upgrade interventions. We are currently working in nine (9) regions of Ghana with more than two hundred (200) organised groups comprising twenty-two thousand (22,000) members.
