As part of the Land Services and Citizenship (LSC) program, a 13-Member Community Social Investment Facility (C-SIF) Advisory Board has been inaugurated to address slum based issues and development communities in Accra.
The aim of the Board is to offer strategic advice on priorities for the prudent allocation of funds to enable slum dwellers and settlements-based community organisations to access grants to finance initiatives to meet their needs.
It will also ensure that the objectives of the C-SIF are adequately followed in practical terms, such as ensuring that strategies to address potential threats to the C-SIF’s success are identified.
Members of the board are selected from Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Ministry of Finance, the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) and the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).
The rest of the members are from the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), the Ghana Federation of the Urban Poor (GHAFUP), People’s Dialogue and the United Nations Habitat Ghana. Among the 13 members GHAFUP and PD have 5 members which include; Janet Adu, Rashidatu Mahamud, Suzanna Owusu Ansah, Mr Farouk Braimah and Mr Philip Nkrumah.
President of the GHAFUP, Madam Janet Adu explained that, a seed grant that has been set by the Cities Alliance International will be given as loans to members in communities where the LSC programs are being implemented.
“It will be given as loans because, we expect them to pay back so that it will be available for others to access when the need arises.” She said.
Madam Janet also added that, the loan will be available for members who want to start small businesses like bakery and any other income generated business.
The LSC programme is a partnership initiative undertaken by the government of Ghana and its stakeholders to alignurban development efforts at the national, city and community levels.
